Residents are encouraged to continue their efforts to divert yard waste from landfills by practicing backyard composting, mulching or using one of the yard waste drop-off locations.
Composting
Composting is nature's way of recycling. Not only does composting help the environment, but it can help your garden, yard and houseplants too! It is a satisfying way to turn food waste and yard trimmings into a beneficial soil conditioner.
Composting:
- saves you money by replacing store bought soil conditioners.
- helps garden and house plants by improving the fertility and health of your soil.
- saves water by helping the soil hold moisture and reducing water runoff.
- benefits the environment by recycling valuable organic resources and extending the life of our landfills.
Yard Waste Drop-Off Locations
Citizens are encouraged to use yard waste drop-off sites to minimize the amount of yard waste that is sent to solid waste landfills. Important information to remember when using one of these facilities:
- Do NOT place yard waste in plastic bags. Plastics can not be composted and therefore are not accepted at yard waste drop-off locations.
- The use of biodegradable brown paper yard waste bags is encouraged. Cans may also be used to transport yard waste but will need to be emptied once at the drop-off location.
