The Reds Rookie Success League is a non-competitive, coed, character building summer baseball league targeting at-risk 7-10 year olds.  The four-week program stresses valuable life lessons while utilizing the game of baseball as the delivery vehicle. Children from participating Cincinnati Recreation Commission centers will attend the program on Wednesdays and Thursdays beginning June 15th and ending July 7th 2011.  Children will participate in team building and baseball related activities from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.  Transportation is provided daily from the participating recreation centers to Schmidt Ball Fields in the East End. The program debuted in July 2003 and adheres to the mission of the Reds Community Fund, providing inner-city children with an opportunity to play baseball in a safe and fun environment.

During every practice and game, the staff of trained coaches and volunteers emphasizes the “CI REDS” acronym:  Cooperation, Integrity, Respect, Education, Determination and Spirit. Character-building exercises, coupled with baseball drills, reinforce the character trait of the week.

Each child also receives a team shirt, food, beverages and all necessary equipment. Medical personnel from TriHealth will be on hand to oversee the physical well being on the children and volunteers.
