Mayor Mallory Staff Members to Participate
in White House Roundtable
Cincinnati – Mayor Mark Mallory is proud to announce that two members of his staff, one current and one former, will represent Cincinnati in the White House Young American’s Roundtable. The panel will be held Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at The Cincinnati Library “Teen Spot” at 1:00 PM.
“I am extremely proud of Arlen and Sean. They have worked very hard and this is a great opportunity for both of them as well as for the City of Cincinnati,” said Mayor Mark Mallory.
Arlen Herrell and Sean Walton have both worked directly with Mayor Mallory over the years as they developed their careers and became involved in Cincinnati civically. Both starting as interns together; Herrell now works as Special Projects Manager for Mayor Mallory, and Walton recently finished law school at Capital University.
The roundtable sessions are an opportunity for diverse groups of young leaders to sit down with the White House in an open forum and discuss issues facing the nation. These topics include the economy, equal rights, civic engagement and much more.
“This event is important because it gives people a chance to discuss issues and communicate them to the white house. A lot of what Arlen and I do, both through Mayor Mallory and The Fresh Xpress, gets right at the heart of the American people and their everyday lives. So for us, to be a part of this discussion with the White House is very important,” explained Sean Walton.
Founded two years ago, Herrell and Walton manager their own website, TheFreshXpress.com, and consider their site to be “the pulse of young, black America.” They both spoke highly of the support that they received from Mayor Mallory in their beginning days of The Fresh Xpress.
“Mayor Mallory has been very supportive and has helped both of us expand our reach out into the community. It is an honor to work in his office and learn from his political endeavors and his willingness to go out and help others is inspiring. His support extends beyond being a boss, he is my mentor as well,” spoke Arlen Herrell.
