Martin Luther King

West MLK Drive Access Improvement

This street project will begin at the W. McMicken Avenue/ MLK intersection and continue east along Martin Luther King Jr. Drive to the Clifton Avenue/MLK intersection.

The City has received numerous complaints concerning safety and congestion issues along this roadway. Also, there are a high number of accidents with parked cars and sideswipe accidents along West MLK Drive. City staff is also concerned with the problems pedestrians are facing with trying to maneuver the Clifton Avenue/W. MLK Drive intersection.

With theCity's issues, community concerns and project goals, the purpose and need was established in order to develop alternatives.

After the March 2010 Public Meeting, the design team used public comments and the project purpose and need to narrow down the alternatives.

A public meeting was held February 3, 2011 to review the recommended alternative with the community and gather final comments. The recommended alternative was developed based on meeting the project's purpose and need, and taking into account comments from the June 2010 public meeting. The following links show the preferred alternative:

The preferred alternative east of Dixmyth has been modified to refelct comments recieved from Parks and the community.

  • Recommended Alternative West (Dixmyth Avenue and areas west)
  • Recommended Alternative East (east of Dixmyth Avenue through Clifton Avenue)
